Where art meets architecture

In 2016 the underlying theme of the edition was the dialogue between art and architecture shown in the work of contemporary artists and architects. This theme was also of particular interest to curator duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, as historically, art and architecture have always been closely related.

Traditional medias, such as painting and sculpting, were redefined by architectural space since more and more architects were inspired by visual arts. Today this interaction plays an important role in a number of contemporary practices. HORST highlighted some of these practices, both by established names and young talent. Among them are Luc Deleu (BE), Pieterjan Ginckels (BE), Adrien Tirtiaux (BE), Anne Dessing (NL), Filip Dujardin (BE), Lodewijk Heylen (BE) & Elise Eeraerts (BE).

The 2016 music line-up was diverse, combining an array of impressive underground producers and guaranteed to deliver deejays. HORST invited personas and collectives from all over the wolrd, each of whom contributing to a bustling hyper-local scene whilst resonating on a global scale. Among them were: Antal, Honey Soundsystem, Mister Saturday Night, Machinedrum, Mala, The Black Madonna, Lone, Awesome Tapes From Africa, Jordan Rakei and many others.
